What makes this one particularly rewarding is Pratchett at his most novelistic — less concerned with plot mechanics than with character and texture. The prose crackles with the usual wit, but there's unusual warmth here too, a generosity toward even minor figures that makes Ankh-Morpork feel genuinely lived-in. Jokes land on multiple levels simultaneously, and the satire cuts in directions you don't anticipate.
